Well it's been awhile since I heard anything unique come out of the Metal genre. But the self-titled debut from southern
California's Chrysalis delivers. Unlike many of their contemporaries, the band shows a willingness to experiment, and go outside
what is considered norm for the genre.
The quintet is also able to combine classical piano, strings, technical metal
shredding, aggressive and singnig vocals, and even the occasional funky slap bass. All without a hiccup.
After a few
listens, it's apparent that a great amount of thought was put into each song. There is so many little details throughout the
whole record that, IMO, really take the music to the next level.
If anything, this record is worth a spin based simply
on it's well executed attempt to do something different. Great album, and definitely a band to keep your eye on.
